Rs 480.87crore central flood assistance approved for Assam

NEW DELHI , May 14: The high-level committee has approved Rs 480.87 crore for Assam as central flood assistance to the State.

The high-level committee met in New Delhi on Monday with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in the chair. The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Agriculture Radha Mohan Singh, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Secretary for Department of Expenditure Ajay Narayan Jha and senior officers of the ministries of Home Affairs, Finance and Agriculture, besides the officials of NITI Aayog.

The committee approved central flood/drought assistance of Rs 1,161.17 crore to Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Rajasthan and Lakshadweep.

Central assistance to Assam is for 2017-18 floods, Himachal Pradesh for floods/ landslides during 2017-18), Sikkim for floods/landslides during 2017-18, Lakshadweep for cyclone Ockhi during 2017 and Rajasthan for kharif drought during 2017.

The high-level committee also approved assistance from NDRF amounting to Rs 84.60 crore for Himachal Pradesh, Rs 67.40 crore for Sikkim, Rs 2.16 crore for Lakshadweep and Rs 526.14 crore for Rajasthan.
