DC appeals to make Ambubachi Mela plastic-free

Guwahati, June 14: Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner has appealed to the people for not to use plastic during Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya Temple this year. In a meeting today at Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner’s office, Kamrup (M) DC Virendra Mittal informed that food and water suppliers (Bhandara) from various voluntary organizations will be engaged to ask the pilgrims not to use any kind of plastic items and make the mela plastic-free Ambubachi Mela. Instead of using plastic plate, cup, spoon etc. he appealed for the use of biodegradable ones. The DC appealed to maintain utmost health and hygiene in the preparation of foods for the pilgrims. He also urged for maintenance of proper disposal mechanism for the leftover food items and to maintain cleanliness in each camp. He also also stressed on discipline in the camps, so that the massage can be spread all over India. He also appealed to the Bhandaras to keep sufficient water in the camps. He appealed to the camp workers to work as a team to make the event a grand success. This has been stated in a press release.
