JOYSAGAR, June 17: Looking at the present flood situation in the State, the Sivasagar district administration has asked the District Disaster Management Cell, SDRF, Water Resources Department and also the security forces, Assam Police as well as State Fire Service to remain alert and to be prepared for urgent rescue and rehabilitation operation in the district.
Meanwhile, the Dikhow and the Desang river have crossed the danger level due to continuous rainfall in Sivasagar for the last three days. The Dorika, Mitong, Namdang and Jhanji rivers are also flowing at a high level of the declared danger mark. People living in the river banks are living in fear and uncertainty. Besides, the local inhabitants of Bhogamukh, Khonamukh, Rupahimukh, Bharalua, Desangmukh, Dorikapar, Naujan, Konwarpur and other villages are preparing to leave their houses and move to safer places. Some have even built temporary huts and tents in the river embankment areas and in some of the public fields which are situated at a high ground level.
Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner PG Jha called an emergency review meeting with the government agencies concerned as well as the nodal officers on June 15 and he asked all concerned to be dedicated and serious and to work as a team to overcome the upcoming flood crisis.
