Guwahati: War Nongbri, the District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya in an order issued on August 31 has declared the house of Tri Shabong in Lawsohtun Block-2 (Lumpdeng) as a containment area so as to restrict unregulated entry and exit movement on site.

"Due to the detection of positive COVID-19 cases in an identified house in Lawsohtun Block-2 (Lumpdeng) due to recent high risk and low-risk contact with the COVID-19 positive cases and because vulnerable and affected areas require aggressive contact tracing, quarantine, testing, and isolation as well as containment in the interest of the health of the general public against any possible spread of COVID-19," officials said.

Nongbri's order states that no person shall be allowed to move into the containment area and inhabitants within the containment area shall not move out. Besides, all inhabitants within the containment area shall strictly remain inside their homes.

As per the order, gatherings, events, functions whatsoever of any nature and forms including social, political, religious, economic activities shall not be allowed in the area.

All shopping establishments shall be closed immediately and supply of essential and medical requirements for purchase will be ensured through various teams formed by the District Administration, Nongbri further stated.

"All Government and private institutions located within the boundary of the containment area are to close forthwith, till further orders," the government's order further stated.

According to the order, the Incident Commander, Zone-II, will be the Supervising Officer of the house that has been declared as a containment area.

The order, however, will not apply to health workers and essential workers of the Shillong Municipal Board, press including electronic and print media, petrol pumps, and LPG delivery workforce, the DM added.

The order also states that any violation of the order will entail prosecution under the penal provision of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and IPC.

District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District in orders issued on August 31 has lifted the containment orders in Horju Roy Compound at Jeep Stand and Rana Compound at Lower Mawprem "based on the contact tracing status and testing of the high-risk contacts.

However, as per the orders of the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District, Mohammad Salim Compound at Lower Mawprem is still retained as a containment area.
