GUWAHATI: The Koch Rajbongshi National Convention (KRNC) has expressed satisfaction over their meeting held with the Chief Minister regarding granting of ST status to six communities.

Talking to The Sentinel, KRNC general secretary Biswajit Ray said the chief ministerial level meeting held with various Koch Rajbongshi organizations was positive.

Ray underlined that the CM assured the bodies to solve the 53 years old democratic deliberations.

"The CM said within August 31, a meeting will be held with the group of ministers headed by Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. We hope that in the meeting, the criteria and other conditions and conflicts among the tribal communities will be resolved," said Ray.

The general secretary asserted that in the forthcoming Assam Assembly Monsoon Session, discussions will be held regarding the creation of autonomous council for Koch Rajbonshis.

He underlined that earlier the KRNC had submitted a memorandum with 31 other demands to the CM.

"In the memorandum we had demanded a separate State - Kamatapur for the Koch Rajbonshis. We demanded a political solution to this. Under the Kamatapur Autonomous Council, undivided Goalpara district and Koch Rajbonshi villages of Sorbhog should be included," said Ray.

Among other demands in the memorandum include - construction of a museum dedicating Bir Chilarai and a cultural centre of Maharaj Nara Narayan at Bongaigaon district to conserve the culture and heritage of the community.

The KRNC also demanded Kamatapur Bhawans in New Delhi, Guwahati and Bongaigaon.

"The historical places of the Koch Rajbonshis should be developed as tourism places. The CM has assured that in the future discussions will he held to find solutions to these demands," Ray added.
