Coal-laden truck catches fire in Tinsukia

DIGBOI: A 20-wheeler coal-laden truck (HR61 A 9588) caught fire suddenly at Borgolai near Maa Durga Weight Bridge under Margherita Police Station in Tinsukia district. The vehicle with the consignment was heading towards Margherita-Digboi route when the fire accident took place which subsequently engulfed the frontal cabin, including the entire engine section.

The instant combined efforts of the police and fire service from the coal industry prevented large-scale damage to the property and the consignment. The partially damaged vehicle was immediately brought under the police custody for detail investigation.

Media reports quoted the consignment as ‘illegally procured one’ while one of the top district police officials, on being inquired by this reporter could not ascertain the legal status of the consignment in the absence of the available documents which turned to ashes during the fire accident. However, the SP Tinsukia said, “It was a case of fire accident and the cause of which is yet to be ascertained.” He added that if needed all the pros and cons of the cases would also be taken into consideration before reaching the unverified conclusion. According to him, all the stakeholders, including the transporter, vendor and selling agency would be called for further investigation.
