BOKAJAN: In a major development, the Khatkhati police have seized a huge consignment of ganja from a 12-wheeler truck along the Assam-Nagaland border here on Sunday.

According to reports, acting on a tip-off, the Khatkhati police launched a search in the cabin of a truck bearing registration number NL 01 AD 7670 and recovered approximately 400 Kilograms of cannabis concealed under secret compartments inside the cabin. The approximate face value of the seized cannabis is estimated to be around Rs 40 lakh in the black market.

There has been a recent spike in smuggling of banned psychopathic drugs including cannabis into Assam through Karbi Anglong. Most of the drugs from the infamous Golden triangle also enter Assam through Karbi Anglong. Recently, the Manza police based on specific information intercepted a truck and recovered over 4,000 banned 'WY' tablets worth Rs 4 crore in the black market. Earlier in May, the Khatkhati police seized a truck along with 210 kilogram ganja concealed under secret compartment attached to the cabin of the truck.
