In view of the prevailing coronavirus situation, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has decided to reduce the Higher Secondary (HS) syllabus by 30% for the academic year 2020-21.

The move has been taken by the Council to ease the curriculum load on the students, due to the closure of academic institutions across the State.

Due to COVID - 19 pandemic and nationwide lockdown, ongoing academic session is affected. After a thorough analysis of the situation and suggestions, the final decision has been taken.

As per reports, AHSEC confirmed after a meeting with its academic standing committee, it has decided to reduce the syllabus by 30% as a one-time measure.

Notably, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has already rationalized its syllabus for Class 9 to 12 for the academic session 2020-21 by up to 30%.

In reports, it also stated that the course downsizing would include both HS 1st Year and HS 2nd Year curriculum and the Council would formally notify its decision by August 31.

It is to be mentioned that earlier on August 1, Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that SEBA and AHSEC have been advised to either reduce the syllabus or provide maximum options in the question paper so that students don't face difficulty if a portion of the syllabus has not been completed.
