Assam's Nalbari adopts 'girl power' model, hands all top Govt posts to women

Guwahati: Setting a great example for posterity, the Nalbari district in lower Assam has become the first district to be run largely by women. All the uppermost administrative posts of this district are now being held by women.

In a remarkable development, all the top administrative posts like The Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Chief Executive Officer of the Zila Parishad, among others, are now all being filled by women! The Former CEO of the Dhuburi District Zila Parishad, Purabi Konwar is all set to be appointed as the first woman Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari. IPS Officer Amanjeet Kaur, formerly  DCP (Traffic) in Guwahati, is now the SP in Nalbari and the DSP there is Jupi Bordoloi.

Meanwhile, Senior ACS officer Krishna Baruah, the present CEO of the Nalbari District Zila Parishad is also among the top female officeholders in the district. Out of seven revenue circles of Nalbari district, four are being headed by women officers. Apart from that, posts like social welfare, circle office and judiciary department are also being largely held by women.

This is a truly remarkable example of women empowerment in India, where women have long been treated as second-class citizens and have played second-fiddle to men, by have by and large owned the top Government posts in the country. This is sure to serve as a confidence booster for the womenfolk of the state and instill them with belief that yes, women are no less than men.
