Joint move to tackle COVID-19 pandemic in Garo Hills

SHILLONG: To arrest the spread of coronavirus and also to contain it at the very initial stages, the district administration of West Garo Hills and BSF Tura are working in tandem to quarantine, isolate and testing of the COVID-19 of all the troops arriving from other States for duty on the Indo-Bangladesh border, stated a release.

To provide adequate medical facility to the COVID-19 patients, an initiative has been taken by BSF Tura under the direction of Kuldeep Saini, Inspector General, BSF, Meghalaya Frontier.

A COVID Healing Centre with 75 beds has been set up at Bewegre in Tura to be run by medical officers and paramedical staff from BSF. The facility was opened by Ram Singh, District Magistrate of West Garo Hills. The Centre will treat the COVID patients of all the BSF units deployed in the Garo Hills region. This will ease the pressure on the COVID Care Center and Civil hospital at Tura.

The facility was inspected by Dr Mukrang Terang, District Surveillance Officer, West Garo Hills and Dr Ivonne M Sangma, District Maternal and Child Health Officer-cum-Additional District Surveillance Officer, West Garo Hills. This is the first-ever facility created by BSF in Meghalaya State under the supervision of Surjit Singh, DIG BSF, Sector Headquarter in Tura. Among those present on this occasion were JK Singh, Commandant, Sector Headquarters, BSF Tura; KN Tripathi, Commandant and Dr SK Verma CMO (SG).
