Freshers' meet organised

Silchar, Sept 12: Bishnupriya Manipuri Students’ Association (BMSA) organized its freshers’ meet at the District Library auditorium of this town last Sunday. They have been organizing this gala event for the last 6 years. A book, ‘Nuwamilleng’ was also released on the occasion.  The event was graced by the presence of Assam Police Battalion Commandant, APS Pradip Sinha, BMSA president Shivananda Sinha, BMSA secretary Manoj Sinha, Monika Sinha and Dr J P Sinha, the guest of honour on the freshers’ meet. The cultural programme consisted of events like ramp walk, fashion show, modelling and fancy dress. Those who spoke on the occasion urged upon people to boycott Chinese products at any cost. Presently, there are 2 lakh Bishnupriya Manipuris and 1, 20, 000 voters in Barak Valley. Literacy rate among these Bishnupriya Manipuris is 70%.
