Freedom fighter and philanthropist Prasad Singh Chubba remembered

Tezpur, Sept 12: Remembering prominent freedom fighter and philanthropist Prasad Singh Chubba on his 100th birth anniversary, a programme was organized by Limbu Mahasabha in association with Prasad Singh Chubba Memorial Academy on Monday at Trimurti Auditorium Hall, Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district to pay rich tribute to the freedom fighter and for conferring the Prasad Singh Chubba Memorial Awards.
The programme was inaugurated by Lakhi Prasad Limbu,  district president of Limbu Mahasabha, and the welcome speech was given by Chattraman Chubba, litterateur and chief secretary of Limbu Mahasabha in presence of Mohan Dukhan, famour poet of Darjeeling, TB Chandra Chubba, prominent litterateur of Sikkim and others.
On the occasion, TB Chandra Chubba, prominent litterateur of Sikkim and Amar Bania Laharu, poet of Sikkim, were conferred the Prasad Singh Chubba Memorial Award.
The auspicious programme was started with the prayer of the Limbu community following by flag of Limbu Mahasabha being hoisted by Lakhi Prasad Limbu, district president of Mahasabha and Chattraman Chubba, writer and president of Prasad Singh Chubba Memorial Academy. Ganesh Limbu, social activist offered the garland on the potrait of Prasad Singh Chubba and lit the lamp. Tagging with the occasion, a book in recognition of Prasad Singh Chubba’s contribution, written and edited by Chattraman Chubba, prominent litterateur, titled Gurkha Gandhi was released by Mohan Dukhun, famous poet of Darjeeling. 
Addressing the mammoth gathering, Chattraman Chubba said that Prasad Singh Chubba was a great freedom fighter and his contribution to the nation and the people of the greater area could not be measured in words.
Earlier attending as chief guest, Dr. Khagen Sarma, Professor of Gauhati University, said that India achieved freedom by dint of immeasurable sacrifices and struggle and in the battle of freedom, people of Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district had contributed immensely by following the path of Mahatma Gandhi to attain freedom. Among the martyrs of freedom movement, Prasad Singh Chubba of the greater Dhekiajuli area played a very crucial role to get freedom from the British. He had gathered people from various parts of Dhekiajuli greater area to fight against the exploitation of the British and urged people to lend a hand to root out the British rulers from the Indian soil. Chubba was a philanthropist, he always extended every possible help to the weaker section of the society, Dr Sarma said.
