Former MLA's bust unveiled

From A Reporter
SHILLONG, Sept 13: A bust of late Bhaskar Choudhury, former MDC and MLA of Laban, was unveiled at Lumkartic, Harisabha near Laban dispensary, here on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly’s Commissioner and Secretary Andrew Simon said, “Choudhury was a man with broad outlook and got along with people from various communities and he was also a good orator in the Legislative Assembly.”
He added, “It was sad that Choudhury passed away at a relatively young age of 51 on 12th September 1994 as he could have contributed more to the service of the people of the State in different capacities.”
Simon said the bust is a befitting tribute to late Choudhury for the services that he had rendered to the constituency and the State as a whole.
An emotional Sukania Choudhury, daughter of late Choudhury, said in her short speech, “To witness some of the proud moments of my father as a daughter is an emotional moment for me and the entire family.”
She said her father strongly believed in everyone’s welfare. According to her, he would say “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
Local MLA Sanbor Shullai, who too was present on the occasion, said, “In my encounters with Bhaskar Choudhury I have found that he would always encourage the students to be sincere in their studies and obey their parents and bring laurel to their families and to the State as a whole. These are some of his attributes that endeared him to the people.”
