DC warns action against illegal checking of migrant labourers

SHILLONG, August 17: Taking cognizance of the fact that various NGOs, pressure groups with vested interest are conducting anti-infiltration, checking of migrant labourers which is illegal, the Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills district has said that if any NGOs are found to indulge in such acts, severe action will be taken against them as per the law. The Deputy Commissioner informed that only police personnel and Anti-Infiltration Units are empowered to conduct such checking. He also requested the public to bring to the attention of the district administration if they happen to find any violation of this order, a press release stated on Monday.
