Assam to send big contingent in National Games in Goa from October 26

Addressing a media gathering the secretary of the Assam Olympic Association Lakhya Konwar said, “Nearly 350 players and officials are expected to represent Assam in the forthcoming Games and the preparations are in full swing.”

 GUWAHATI: Assam will send a huge contingent in the forthcoming National Games which will be held in Goa from October 26. The total strength of the contingent will be around 350 and the first batch is expected to leave on October 17.

Addressing a media gathering the secretary of the Assam Olympic Association Lakhya Konwar said, “Nearly 350 players and officials are expected to represent Assam in the forthcoming Games and the preparations are in full swing.”

Konwar today also praised the State Government for organizing a residential training camp for the athletes who will represent Assam in the Goa Games. “It’s a very nice initiative and will help our athletes to make a good preparation before the start of the Games,” said Konwar.

Assam Olympic Association today also welcomed the Government’s decision to start Khel Maharan in Assam. Khel Maharan is a sports event which is designed to promote the game in the grass root level across the State and also identify the talent at the early stage. Reacting to the government’s decision to start Khel Maharan Konwar said, “We welcome the government decision to start an event like Khel Maharan. It will give good exposure to the young athletes of the State.”

Meanwhile Assam Olympic Association will organize the second edition of the Youth Olympic in Dibrugarh in December. The Assam Government has sanctioned Rs 2 crore for this event.

The media briefing was also attended by Secretary General of the Boxing Federation of India Hemanta Kalita and General Secretary of the Assam Weightlifting Association Bhabajyoti Goswami.

Meanwhile Assam Olympic Association today appointed Kalyan Gogoi (Associate Vice President of AOA) and Bhabajyoti Goswami (Assistant Secretary of AOA) as the Deputy Chef de Mission of the Assam contingent for the forthcoming National Games. The secretary of the Assam Swimming Association Bhaskar Ranjan Das was named as the chief coordinator of the team. It may be mentioned here that the secretary of the Assam Amateur Boxing Association Hemanta Kalita was already appointed as Chef de Mission of the State contingent.
