Mayur Buragohain is the son of Bipin Buragohain. He is a resident of Simaluguri in Nazira . He is married to Hemamoni Handique. He is known to be a social worker and is the founder of Ashray NGO.
He completed Bachelor of Arts in History from Gargaon College, Simaluguri under Dibrugarh University in 2004.
Mayur Buragohain is the Central Secretary of All Tai Ahom Student Union. It is said that his loyalty towards Assam Minister and senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sharma helped him in securing his candidature to contest election from the Nazira constituency. Now he is representing the Nazira constituency. Buragohain is also the State General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.

Mayur Buragohain is a social worker and is known to reach out to people in every corner of his constituency to address their issues. He represents the Tai Ahom community in the state. He has been working towards promoting tourism for the welfare of the tea community and building a resilient ecosystem.
Mayur Buragohain led the protest against the Cultural Affairs Department of Government of Assam regarding the misrepresentation of SuKapha in the tableau of the Republic Day parade.This led to a widespread demonstration in Upper Assam for at least 36 hours, which caused the cancellation of the Assam Tableau, and he was arrested.
