Early life

Rakibul Hussain is a resident of Nagaon, Assam. He is the son of late Hurul Hussain and late Lutfun Nahar Hussain. He was born on 7th August 1964. He got married to Hazrin Hussain and has a son. His assets consist of Agricultural lands, residential buildings and non-agricultural properties.

Education

He completed his graduation with a Bachelor of Arts from Nowgon College Assam, under Gauhati University in 1988.

Career and Politics

Rakibul Hussain was first elected to the Assam Assembly in 2001 on a Congress ticket. He has been winning the Samaguri seat since 2001 till the 2016 Assam Assembly elections. He has been the Minister of State for Home (Jail & Home Guards) Border in 2001. In 2002 he was Minister for Area Development and Passport. In 2004 he was Minister of State for Home, Political, Passport, HAJ, BAD, Information Technology, Printing & Stationery. In 2006-2011 he was the Minister for Environment & Forest, Tourism, Information & Public Relation, Printing & Stationery etc.From 2011-16 he was the Minister for Forest & Environment & Panchayat & Rural Development.

He won the 2016 Assam Assembly elections for the fourth time on a Congress ticket from the Samaguri seat. He would be testing his luck for the fifth time in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections from Samaguri on a Congress ticket.

Controversy 

Rakibul Hussain has been one of the controversial politicians of Assam. He has courted controversy in 2015 with regard to NRC. In 2018 he was in the middle of a controversy about teaching the Assamese language in Saudi Arabia.
