In the Lok Sabha election of 2019, Gaurav Gogoi, a candidate of the Indian National Congress had won a seat as the Member of Parliament from KaliaborLok Sabha Constituency by defeating MoniMadhabMahanta of Asom Gana Parishad.
Bokakhat Assembly Constituency lies in the administrative district of Golaghat which attained the status of a district in 1987. Golaghat district's population stands at 946,279, of which 813,263 are Hindus. The district is also home to the famous Kaziranga National Park and Nambor-Doigrung Wildlife Sanctuary.

The candidates that contested in the 2016 Assam Assembly Election are Atul Bora of AGP, ArunPhukan of INC, and independent candidates Anima Gogoi, Reba Kanta Gogoi, BijoyKutum and MrityunjoyPegu. Finally, Atul Bora of AGP won with 59.71% of votes.
Atul Bora began the construction of "Exhibition and Sales Center and Cafeteria" under "Mohapara Handloom Art Tourism Village Scheme". As the Agriculture minister, he also ensured that schemes and projects are launched to help farmers of the constituency and the state.
