In the Assam Assembly Election of 2016, Ashok Singhal of Bharatiya Janata Party appeared as the winner of the MLA seat by securing 49.57% votes. Habul Chakraborty of the Indian National Congress was the runner up with 25.28% votes. AIUDF candidate Dhaniram Rajowar got 11.58% votes and secured the third position. In the fourth position, an Independent candidate named Benudhar Nath secured 5.65% and Ranjay Basumatary from IND secured 2.06% votes placed in the fifth position.
