Dhekiajuli, famous for the tea estates in its vicinity, is a township and municipality under the Sonitpur district/region of Assam, India. In contrast, the Indian National Congress candidate Habul Chakraborty was the runner-up with 36,430 votes.

In the Assembly Election 2011, the Indian National Congress candidate Habul Chakraborty won the MLA seat against Joseph Toppo with 45,799 votes. In the Assembly Election of Assam 2016, Ashok Singhal of Bharatiya Janata Party won the MLA seat against Habul Chakraborty of the Indian National Congress with 71,425 votes. In the Assam Assembly Election of 2016, Ashok Singhal of Bharatiya Janata Party appeared as the winner of the MLA seat by securing 49.57% votes. Habul Chakraborty of the Indian National Congress was the runner up with 25.28% votes. AIUDF candidate Dhaniram Rajowar got 11.58% votes and secured the third position. In the fourth position, an Independent candidate named Benudhar Nath secured 5.65% and Ranjay Basumatary from IND secured 2.06% votes placed in the fifth position.
