Gohpur is a village and a sub-division located in the Biswanath district of Assam. The official languages of Gohpur are Bodo, Assamese, Bengali. In Gohpur, the famous freedom fighter Kanaklata Barua was born so the place is regarded as a historical place. Gohpur is also home to many historical temples, monuments etc. As per Census Report 2011, the sub-district code of Gohpur block is 02047. There are 231 villages and no towns in Gohpur Block. In the 2016 Assembly Election, BJP candidate Utpal Borah won the Assembly seat, with a total of 85424 votes and became MLA, whereas INC candidate Monika Bora was the runner-up with a total of 56489 votes. Therefore she lost the MLA seat by 28935 votes.

 Gohpur Assembly Constitution witnessed a polling percentage of 63.64% during the 2019 Lok Sabha election whereas it witnessed a polling percentage of 58.26% during the 2016 Legislative Assembly Election. It saw a polling percentage of 51.1% during the 2014 Lok Sabha Election.

  • In the 1996 Assembly election, the candidate Ganesh Kutum of AGP had won the Assembly seat with a total of 33664 votes.
  • In the following 2001 and 2006 Assembly Election, the candidate Ripun Bora of the Indian National Congress won the assembly seat with a total of 58850 and 69718 votes respectively.
  • In the 2011 Assam Assembly Election, the candidate Monika Bora of INC won the election with a total of 60441 votes and became the MLA.
  • In the last Assembly Election, Utpal Borah of BJP won the MLA election against Monika Bora of INC with a total of 85424 votes.
  • Now Utpal Borah of BJP is the current MLA of Gohpur Assembly Constituency.

The percentage vote share of the political party in the last election :

In the assembly election of 2016, Utpal Borah of BJP emerged as a winner of the assembly seat by securing 58.26% of votes. Monika Bora of INC was the runner up with 38.53% of votes. While the third position was given to None of The Above (NOTA) with 1.11% of votes. In the fourth position, there is the CPI(ML)(L) candidate, HalanPurtti who secured 0.81% of votes. In the fifth position, an independent candidate (IND) named, Sabir Narzary secured only 0.66% of votes.

The winner of the 2016 Assembly Election was Utpal Borah of BJP with 85424 total votes whereas Sabir Narzary, an independent candidate has secured only 967 votes.

Work was done in the last Five Years :

Under the scheme called MukhyamantrirGrammyaParibahanAchonior Chief Minister's Rural Transport Scheme, the government has already provided 25% of the cost of the vehicle. For example, Light Motors vehicles were given away around the constituency. This scheme aims to improvise the connectivity of rural areas to urban areas and also to bring about employment in the village. The MLA has taken several initiatives for the development of the constituency.
