Hojai Assembly Constituency is one among 126 Assembly constituencies and beers number 91. It falls under the Nowgong Lok Sabha constituency.

DISTRICT

Hojai is one of the newly formed districts, which was formed in 15 august 2016 from 3 tehsils of Nagaon district. The district headquarter is situated at Sankardev Nagar with a distance of about 8 km from Hojai town. The district covers 1686 km square area. Assamese is the official language in Hojai. A large number in Hojai are dependent upon agriculture. The district also has small-scale industries, such as Agar wood Distillation units, Saw Mills and Bamboo and Cane furniture's Manufacturing units.

In the election, the BJP candidate Shiladitya Dev won the MLA seat with 105615 total votes And Dhaniram Thousan of AIUDF party was the runner up with 49756 votes.

  2. In 2006 Dr Aditya Langthasa of Assam United Democratic Front emerged as the winner with 44364 votes and defeated Ardhendu Kr Dey of Indian National Congress party who got 39011 votes.
  3. In 2011, Dr Ardhendu Kumar Dey of the INC party won the seat with 70649 votes and defeated Dr Aditya Langthasa of AIUDF party.
  4. In 2016, Shiladitya Dev of the BJP won the election with 105615 votes and defeated Dhaniram Thousan of AIUDF party.

PERCENTAGE VOTE SHARE OF POLITICAL PARTY IN LAST ELECTION

In the Assembly Election of 2016, Shiladitya Dev of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the election with 54.4% of the overall votes. Dhaniram Thousan of All India United Front Party was the runner up, who secured 25.63% out of total votes. Ardhendu Kumar Dey of the Indian National Congress party secured 18.13%. The independent candidates, Zakir Hussain and Mainul Hoque secured 0.74% and 0.41% respectively. 0.69% of the votes had been given to 'none of the above'.

BIG TICKET SCHEMES/PROJECT ANNOUNCED IN THE RUN UP TO THE ELECTIONS FOR THE CONSTITUENCIES

In 2021 upcoming Assam Assembly election, different parties have laid out their manifestos to the people so that they can win the election.

The BJP has made decisions about involving public opinions so they announced that hundreds of vehicles with audio-visual presentation will tour Assam in order to know about the needs of the public. And the people can also make a miss call in order to state their needs. The party, already providing almost 8000 old namgarhs with 250000 rupees each, also promised to increase the benefits of other namgarh's as well. They have also provided land pattas to landless people.

Congress party's manifesto mentions the waiver of microfinance loans of all types for women to ease the problems of women of villages who are involved in taking loans from microfinance organisation. The party also promised free electricity up to 120 units so that it will be a relief for the poor and middle-class people and they will not have to pay large amount of bill every month.

The party also ensured that a member of each family will have job to prevent unemployment and poverty by adopting the policy of 'one family, one job'.

The AGP party who has allied with BJP, has promised to find solutions regarding the problems of flood and improve the welfare of children, women and economically weaker sections of society.

The AIUDF party promised to protect the security of the minorities and deal with the issues of illegal immigrants.
