Laharighat is a village/town and a Block located in the Morigaon district of Assam, India. The official languages of Laharighat are Bodo, Assamese, Bengali. Laharighat is a Block and a sub- division in the Morigaon district with a population of 2,53,582 peoples. As per Census 2011, there are about 101 villages in Laharighat Block.

 Assembly Constituency Name & No. :

The Legislative Assembly of Assam comprises 126 Members of Legislative Assembly which are directly elected from single-seat constituencies, and its term is five years unless later dissolved. Its

headquarter is located in Dispur. Laharighat is among the 126 assembly constituencies of Assam. Its constituency no. is 80, and it forms a structure of the Nowgong Lok Sabha Constituency.

 Parliamentary Constituency :

The Parliamentary Constituencies in India is 542 and among them, the seats for the general category are 441, and for SC and ST the seats are 84 and 47, respectively. Laharighat Assembly Constituency is one of the Parliamentary segment of the Nowgong Parliamentary Constituency under the Nowgong Lok Sabha Constituency. Laharighat is among the nine assembly segments of Nowgong Parliament Seat under Morigaon district. It is only a General category assembly seat. It is none for SC and ST.

District :

Laharighat is a village/town and a Block situated in the Morigaon district. Morigaon district is an authoritative district and also the second smallest region of Assam, India. Its headquarter is located

in Morigaon. The District has five Revenue sub-divisions and five Development Blocks. Towards the North of Morigaon district, the mighty river the Brahmaputra is located, while towards the South there is Karbi Angling, and towards East and West, there are Nagaon district and Kamrup district, respectively.

 Assembly Status :

In the previous Assam election of 2016, the Laharighat constituency had 160723 electors. Amongst them, the total valid votes was 139870. In the previous Assembly Election of Assam, INC candidate Dr Nazrul Islam won the MLA seat, with 57904 votes whereas, AIUDF candidate Siddique Ahmed was the runner-up with 52098 votes. Therefore he lost the MLA seat by 5806 vote.

Laharighat is a Block in the Nagaon district. It forms a structure/part of the Nowgong Parliamentary constituency. By the report of the 2011 Census, Laharighat Block has a population of 2,53,582 peoples. Where 97.2% of people live in rural areas and 2.8% in urban areas.

Water Connection :

Laharighat, a sub-division in Morigaon District has 46,105 total no. of households. In Laharighat Block and Morigaon district, no family has access to the public water supply. About half of the community use their tube wells, ponds, rivers, hand pumps, etc. To get a good water resource, they have to avail themselves from fewer than 10 metres.

 Street Light :

The access to the street light and the no. of households using electricity in the rural areas shows welfare development. In accordance to the village survey, it is noted that there have been good improvements in access to electricity to every household over the years.

 Municipality Reach :

Besides basic amenities of life, access and availability to basic infrastructure are also the important primary requirements of mankind. The Municipality of the area is responsible to look after this prior requirements. The people mostly depends upon road transport. There are no access to water and air transport in the district, and railway connectivity is also not sufficiently developed. Also, about 85% of the roads are till now un-surfaced.

The major communities living in the constituency are Muslim, which constitutes about 91.26%. The minor communities living in the constituency are Hindu and Christian, where the percentage share is about 8.61% and 0.06% , respectively. There are no of Sikh, Buddhist, Jain or other religion in the constituency.
