Mangaldoi a constituency, in Assam situated in Darrang district, was named after Darrang rajah's daughter Mangaldahi, who was later married to Ahom kingdom ruler Susenghphaa who is also known as Pratap Singha. The town has many colleges and schools such as Don Bosco High School, Sankardev Sishu Niketan, Kendra Vidyalaya Mangaldai, Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Jack Jill English School, Mangaldoi college, Mangaldoi B. ED College, Mangaldoi Commerce College and many more.

The Assam assembly constituency has 126 members and its office is in Dispur. Mangaldoi is the no. 67 constituency. It consists of ten assembly segments.

India has a 542 parliament constituency. From these seats, the general category seats are 441, for SC 84 seats and ST its 47 seats. Mangaldoi is number 8 of Assam's 14 Lok Sabha Constituency.

DISTRICT

Mangaldoi comes under the district, Darrang. Darrang is the administrative headquarters of the district. It is situated 26.43 degrees north and 92.03 degrees east. The distance of the town from Guwahati is approximately 48 km.

The towns in Mangaldoi circle are Mangaldoi Town and Gerimari Chapori Census town. The number of people residing in these towns is 25,989 and 11,004, respectively. Mangaldoi has a 6003 house that has basic amenities supplies like water, electricity and drainage, which the committee manages. The council members are elected every five years.

In the 2016 Assembly election, the number of voters that are registered in this constituency was 709513, and from these, total voter turnouts are 626108. The percentage of total voter turnouts was 88.24 per cent. In the 2016 election Gurujyoti Das, who belonged to Bharatiya Janata Party gain victory and became MLA with 73423 votes. The runner up was Basanta Das, with 51378 votes who belonged to the INC party. 1The Mangaldoi Assembly constituency is expected to poll in 2021 April or May as part of the Assam Assembly Election 2021.

For all the 6003 households falling under the Mangaldoi municipality board, tap water supply is provided to all families. And for the rural area, uncovered well and hand pumps are the sources of drinking water.

RESULT OF THE LAST FIVE YEARS

In the 2016 election, Gurujyoti Das from BJP won the MLA seat, with 73,423 votes than the runner up Basanta Das of the Indian National Congress, who nabbed 51378.

In the 2011 Assembly election, Basanta Das from Indian National Congress was the winner with 65440 votes defeating Mahendra Das of AIUDF, who got 41717.

In the 2006 Assembly election, Hiren Das from AGP earns the victory with 47120 votes defeating Arjun Das from AUDF, who got 38252 votes.

PERCENTAGE VOTE SHARE OF POLITICAL PARTY IN 2016 ELECTION

The winning party that is the Indian National Congress received a 53.92% share of the vote, and the lowest is the IND party with 0.37%. Whereas the percentage of BJP is 41.96% and AITC is 0.63%.

In the 2016 Assam Assembly, the candidates who contested the election in Mangaldoi are Gurujyoti Das, the BJP candidate, Basanta Das of the Indian National Congress, Hiren Kr Das of AIUDF, Bhupen ch. Das of the LJP and independent candidate Jitendra Sarkar, Arjun Ch. Das, Jagadish Chandra Sarkar. At the end among all these candidates, Gurujyoti Das won the election of 2016 with a total vote of 73423, and the candidate of the INC party named Basanta Das lost the election with 51378 votes. 

WORK DONE IN LAST FIVE YEARS BY THE CANDIDATE

MLA, Gurujyoti Das has inaugurated the Darrang skill development program in Darrang. He has also sanctioned many developments and peace projects. A few projects are Jirni Sorati of Bheberghat bus stop, Parial Relations Abhiyan, Supported Atma Nirbhar campaign. Provided money for the establishment of student unions Building.

He had also started the development and beautification of Mangaldoi Bhutiyasang Road from Mangaldoii Tengabari Karimsok. Mr Gurujyoti Das also inaugurate the path from Bor Nagaon Jaganath temple to Saru Nagaon Hari temple Under SOPD. The present MLA has also contributed a lot from the MLA fund.

BIG - TICKET SCHEMES/PROJECTS IN THE RUN UP TO THE ELECTION FOR THE CONSTITUENCIES:

In the upcoming Assam Assembly 2021, different parties have laid out their manifestos to the public in order to win the election.

The BJP party has made decisions about involving the public opinions so they announced that a hundred vehicles with audio-visual presentation will tour Assam in order to know about the needs of the public. And the people can also make a missed call in order to state their needs. The party, already providing almost 8000 old Namgarhs with 2,50000 rupees each, also promised to increase the benefits of other namgarh's as well. They have also provided land pattas to landless people.

Congress Party's manifesto mentions the waiver of microfinance loans of all types for women to ease the problems of women of villages who are involved in taking loans from microfinance organisation. The party also promised free electricity up to 120 units so that it will be a relief for the poor and middle-class people and they will not have to pay a large amount of bill every month.

The party also ensured that a member of each family will have a job to prevent unemployment and poverty by adopting the policy of 'one family, one job'.

AGP party who has allied with BJP has promised to find solutions regarding the problems of flood and improve the welfare of children, women and economically weaker sections of society.
