Nagaon also spelled as 'Nowgong' is an interurban/city and also a municipality in the Nagaon district/ region, Assam. The official languages of Nagaon are Bodo, Assamese, Bengali. To the North region of Nagaon, the mighty/tremendous Brahmaputra and Sonitpur district are located while towards South there is Karbi Anglong region and the beautiful hills of North Cachar and towards the East there are Golaghat and East Karbi Anglong. Its headquarter is stationed in Dispur. Nagaon is the 126 assembly constituencies of Assam. Its constituency no. is 86 and it forms a part/structure of Nowgong Lok Sabha/Parliamentary Constituency.

In the 2016 Assembly Election, BJP candidate Rupak Sarmah won the MLA seat, with 66706 votes and became MLA, whereas INC candidate Dr Durlav Chamua was the runner-up with 53442 votes. Therefore he lost the MLA seat by 13264 votes.

  1. In the 1996 Assembly election of Assam, the candidate Prafulla Kumar Mahanta of AGP had won the MLA seat with 53068 votes.
  2. In the 2001 and 2006 Assembly Election, the candidate of INC Girindra Kumar Barua won the MLA seat with 37099 and 35915 votes.
  3. In prior to Assembly Election 2011, the candidate of INC Dr Durlav Chandra Chamua won the MLA seat with 47977 votes.
  4. In Assembly Election of Assam 2016, Rupak Satmah of BJP won the MLA election against Dr Durlav Chandra Chamua of INC with 66706 votes. Now Rupak Sarmah of BJP is the present MLA of Assembly Constituency of Nagaon. Here's the table given below for detailed information :

  1. In the Assembly Election of Assam 2016, Rupak Sarmah of BJP emerged as a winner of the MLA seat by securing 47.43% of votes.

  3. The third position was secured by Kartick Saha of AIUDF with 12.82% of votes.
  4. While in the fourth position None of The Above (NOTA) secured 0.56% of votes. And the last position was secured by Biren Chandra Das of ABHM with 0.35% of votes.
