According to the census of 2016, the total population of the place is 1,205,073,612 covering an area of around 3,287,263 kms. It is located 37 KM towards South from District headquarters Karimganj, 8 KM from Dullavcherra and 217 KM from State capital Dispur. Ratabari Pin code is 788735 and postal head office is Ratabari.

Ratabari, which is a constituency located in the district of Karimganj district of Assam is surrounded by towns like Patharkandi, Karimganj South, Algapur, Badarpur, Hailakandi and Katlichhera of the Karimganj district. The place is an important town in Lower Assam having numerous educational institutions and places to visit. The railway station consists of a single platform and is a small station in Karimganj district, Assam serving the Ratabari town. The Assembly constituency of Ratabari is Ratabari Assembly Constituency and it is also the No. 1 constituency of Assam legislative assembly.The Karimganj District consists of five assembly constituencies: Karimganj North and Karimganj South, Badarpur, Patharkandi, and Ratabari; all of which are part of Karimganj (Lok Sabha constituency).

Ratabari Assembly constituency is a part of Karimganj parliamentary constituency which comes under the Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency and there is one assembly seat from Ratabari which is reserved only for scheduled castes (SC). This constituency enjoys a specific privilege of reservation for a minority community.


DISTRICT

Ratabari comes under the Karimganj District of the state Assam of India which is the administrative headquarters of the district. Karimganj is bounded on north by the district of Dima Hasao, on the west by Bangladesh and Tripura, on the east Hailakandi district and on the south by Tripura and Mizoram. Karimganj is situated between longitude 91°15' and 93°15' east latitude 24°8' and 25°8' north and covers an area of 1809 kms. out of the state total areas of 78438 kms. In term of geographical area, the rank of the district is 21 compared to other districts of Assam.

So Ratabari is not only the name of a village but also the name of a large area, name of a police station, name of a Gaon Panchayat and also the name of a constituency. Some parts of Ratabari are under the South Karimganj constituency and some parts are under the Ratabari constituency.

ASSEMBLY STATUS

In the 2016 Assembly election, the constituency had a total of 1,48,269 registered voters. The voter turnout in Ratabari in the previous Assembly election was 75.95 percent. In the 2016 Assembly election, the BJP's Kripanath Mallah won the Assembly seat, netting 53,975 votes compared to runner-up Akhil Ranjan Talukdar of the Indian National Congress, who nabbed 29,449 votes.

The Ratabari Assembly constituency is expected to go to polls in April or May 2021, as part of the 2021 Assam Assembly election. The Assam Assembly polls will be held to elect a total of 126 Members of the Assam Legislative Assembly (MLAs).

In the 2011 Assembly election, Mallah, then with the Congress, had won the election receiving 33,043 votes. He had defeated BJP's Nikhil Suklabaidya who got 20,614 votes.

BJP's Candidate Kripanath Mallah won the 2019 elections with a total vote of 77234 with a percentage share of 60.65%. The contesting candidate of other party AIUDF named Radheshyam Biswas was defeated comprising votes of a total of 34421. Even Congress member Swarup Das was defeated with a vote of 11824.

WORK DONE IN LAST 5 YEARS BY THE CANDIDATE


Construction of Chorgola Rongpur Road under MPNA Ph-Ill for the year 2013-14. Even he was the MLA in 2003 (Bye-Election) and again in 2011, President, Borak Valley Tea Youth Welfare Society & Karimganj District Committee, Member of APCC and was re-elected M.L.A. in 2016.

He was involved in Barak Valley Cha Sramik Union (INTUC) to protect their demands etc. through union fighting for their demands and welfare from Govt specially work for S/C people of any Constituency as well as for Assam as they are almost belong to BPL family.
