Udalguri both a town and constituency falls under the Mangaldoi Lok Sabha constituency. it is the headquarter of the district. There are some important tourist places in Udalguri which are: Hanuman temple, Gethsemane Man-made forest and a part of Manas National Park and many more.

ASSEMBLY CONSTITUENCY NAME AND NUMBER

Udalguri (ST) Assembly Constituency is one among the 126 Assembly Constituency in Assam. it bears number 69 out of 126 constituencies and comes under the Mangaldoi Lok Sabha constituency. It is a reserved seat for Schedule Tribe (ST).

PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUENCY

542 is the total number of parliamentary constituencies in India, out of which 441 is the seats for the general category and S.T and S.C category occupies 84 and 47 respectively. Udalguri (ST) constituency falls under the Mangaldoi Lok Sabha Constituency and there is one assembly seat from Udalguri which is only reserved for Schedule Tribes.

DISTRICT

Udalguri is a district in Assam and the District's headquarter is the Udalguri town. The district has an area of 1852km square. As per the census report released in 2011 many languages are spoken in the area, such as Boro, Assamese, Bengali, Sadri, Santali, Nepali etc. Among all the languages the most spoken language is Boro with 26.9%. The district is also home to the Barnodi Wildlife Sanctuary.

ASSEMBLY STATUS

In the assembly election 2016, the Udalguri constituency had a total of 133923 voters and among them, 109659 are the voter's turnout. In the election, a candidate of the Bodoland Peoples Front Party named Rihon Daimari won the seat with 45037 votes by defeating the independent candidate, Anjali Prabha Daimari who secured 20663 votes. The 2021 Udalguri Assembly election is most likely to be held in April or May 2021.

TOTAL POPULATION

In accordance with a report released by the 2011 census, the total population of Udalguri is 212360. From the total population, the population of the male is 107823 and females are 104537. The people living in the towns are only 7.2% and on the other hand, people residing in villages are 92.8 %. The people residing in the towns are less than the people residing in the villages. The literate people living in Udalguri is 119408 from which 66493 are male and 52915 are female.

RELIGIOUS GROUP/DEMOGRAPHY IN THE CONSTITUENCY

In Udalguri, there are different religious groups that are residing together, they are Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Jain. Hindu religion constitutes 123251 people and from this 63025 is the male population and 60226 is the female population. Hindu is the religion with the highest people. The religion with the second-highest population is Christian with 52013 people and from this, 26000 are male and 26013 are females. The Third highest population is of the Muslim religion with 36056 from which 18284 are males and 17772 are females. The religion with the lowest population is the Jain religion with only 18 people from which 11 is that of the male population and 7 are the female population. The Buddhist and Sikh religion had a total of 363 and 24 people respectively. 566 are those people whose religions were not stated and 69 peoples are of other religions. Other than different religion different communities people are also residing together under the constituency which comprises Assamese, Bengali, Nepali, Adivasi and a few more.

CAST AND TRIBES IN UDALGURI

In Udalguri Constituency there is a total of 78236 Schedule Tribes from which 39052 are males and females are 39184. The Schedule Cast residing in Udalguri is 4085 from which 2112 are males and 1973 are females.

The constituency comprises one major town i.e., Udalguri town (town committee) and a report of the 2011 census shows that a total of 15279 people is settled in the town.

The sex ratio of the Udalguri Constituency is 970 females per 1000 males. 

AGE GROUP DISTRIBUTION

The report released by census 2011 shows, the total children in the age of (0 to 6) under Udalguri constituency is 30464 from which 15453 are boys and 15011 are girls. 

POLLING PERCENTAGE FOR PAST 3 YEARS i.e., 2014,2016 & 2019

The graph that is shown below makes it clear that the winner of the election 2014 was the Bharatiya Janata Party. The winner of 2016 was the Bodoland Peoples Front Party and Bharatiya Janata Party was again the winner of 2019.

RESULT OF THE LAST FIVE

In the 1996 Assembly election, Deva Kanta Ramchiary, the independent candidate won the MLA seat with 36798 votes by defeating a candidate of the Congress Party, named Jaman Singh Brahma who secured 33437 votes. The margin was 3361 votes.

Then in 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016 election, the winner was Rihon Daimari who won continuously for the four years with 30170, 35560, 40970 and 45037 votes respectively. In 2001 and 2006, Rihon Daimary emerged as the winner in the election as the Independent candidate. Later in 2011 and 2016 he joined the Bodoland Peoples Front party and participated as the candidate of Bodoland Peoples.

PERCENTAGE VOTE SHARE OF THE POLITICAL PARTIES IN 2916 ELECTION

In the 2016 election, Rihon Daimari who belonged to the Bodoland Peoples Front party was the winner with 40.94%, then Anjali Prabha Daimari, the Independent candidate was the runner up with 18.79%. Jaman Singh Brahma of the Indian National Congress secured 14.86%, and the Independent candidates, Dilip Kr Baro, Bipul Narzary and Santosh Madahi secured 18.37%, 3.29% and 1.52%. Among the voters, 2.23% of the people choose not to vote for anyone and goes for the 'None Of the Above' option. 

CANDIDATES IN LAST ELECTION & RESULT (WINNER AND LOOSER)

In the Assam Assembly Election of 2016, the candidates who had participated in the Udalguri election were: Rihon Daimari of the Bodoland Peoples Front party and the Independent candidates: Anjali Prabha Daimari, Dilip Kr Boro, Bipul Narzary, and Santosh Madahi. And Jaman Singh Brahma of the Indian National Congress Party. From all the candidates who participated, the candidate that emerged as the winner was Rihon Daimari who secured 45037 votes by defeating the Independent candidate named Anjali Prabha Daimari who secured 20663 votes. 

 WORK DONE IN LAST 5 YEARS BY THE MLA OF UDALGURI

Rihon Daimari, MLA of Udalguri has done many works for the past five years. A few works done by him among his many works are: he has inaugurated many community halls which includes, community hall at Rangmukha Madhyam Ingrazi Vidyalaya, community hall at Jhakara Ambagaon Parish and Kumuramakha village, at Motorali Nursery Chowk, at Niz Balisitha Village and at Goraimari Sonaigaon. He had also inaugurated HDFC bank at Udalguri, and Upendra Nath Memorial Park at Harpur, Udalguri. Other than this he also constructed Catholic Church at 104 Majuli Tea State.

BIG TICKET SCHEMES/PROJECTS ANNOUNCED IN THE RUN UP TO THE ELECTIONS FOR THE CONSTITUENCIES

In the upcoming Assam Assembly Election 2021, different parties have laid out their manifestos to people so that it will be easy for them to win the election.

The BJP had made decisions about involving public opinions so they announced that hundreds of vehicles with audio-visual presentation will tour Assam in order to know about what the public actually want. And the people can also make a miss call to state their needs. The party, already providing almost 8000 old namgarhs with 250000 rupees each, also promised that they will be increasing the benefits of other namgarhs as well. They have also given land pattas to those people who are landless.

Congress party's manifesto mentions the waiver of microfinance loans of all types for women to ease the problems of women of villages who are involved in taking loans from microfinance organisation. The party also promised free electricity up to 120 units so that it becomes a relief for the poor and middle-class people and the people will not have to struggle in paying a large amount of electricity bill every month.

The party also ensured that a member of each family will have a job to prevent unemployment and poverty by adopting the policy of 'one family, one job'.

AGP party who has allied with BJP has promised to find solutions regarding the problems of flood and improve the welfare of children, women and economically weaker sections of society.

The AIUDF party made promises that they will protect the security of the minorities and look at the issues of illegal immigrants
