Anti-CAA stir: Pro talk ULFA leader Jiten Dutta arrested in Digboi, brought to Guwahati

Tinsukia: At a time when the peasant leader was sent to 10 day NIA custody, Assam police on Wednesday night arrested pro-talk ULFA leader Jiten Dutta in connection with an arson and vandalism incident at the RSS office in Margherita in Assam's Tinsukia district on December 12.

It is to be noted that the arrest came on a day when his three-day police remand in connection with a case at Tinsukia Sadar police station ended on December 18. Dutta was arrested earlier on Saturday from his residence at Borbil in Digboi under the Tinsukia district.

According to police sources, pro-talk ULFA leader Jiten Dutta has been taken to Guwahati Kahilipara (Special Branch) for further investigation.

Dutta was booked in case (374/19) at Margherita police station under Sections 120 (B), 121, 147, 148, 149, 353, 454, 427 and 435 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Police Sources informed that Dutta was sent to 5-day police remand.

Earlier, a team of Tinsukia Police led by Ripunjoy Kakoti, Additional SP (Crime Branch) in association with the Army took Dutta into its custody on December 15. Dutta who has been leading the anti-CAB movement in Upper Assam said he has done nothing illegal while protesting against the contentious legislation.

Speaking to the media, Jiten Dutta said, “If shouting peacefully against the government in democracy for the sake of society, culture and existence is a crime then I am ready to commit such crime again and again till the Citizenship (Amendment) Act is scrapped.”

It may also be mentioned that Dutta also alleged that he was not intimated anything by the administration and police about his arrest.
