Raising a voice against the Citizenship Bill, 42 local organizations of Assam have joined hands to call for Assam Bandh to be practised on October 23. As stated by these organizations, it will be a 12-hour Assam Bandh.

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) chief Akhil Gogoi whose organization is also one of the leading organizations to call for the bandh, says that the bandh called by the organizations is a protest against the BJP government’s decision to go ahead with the controversial Citizenship Bill.

The KMSS chief also slammed the joint parliamentary committee (JPC) on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill who are to hold a meeting with the officials of Union ministry of Home Affairs and External affairs ministry on the bill without visiting Assam for the second time and without taking the views of individuals and organisations of the state.

Speaking to the media, Gogoi stated, “When the JPC had visited Assam in May this, the panel assured us that it would visit the state once again but now without paying any visit, they are going to hold a meeting with Home as well as External Affairs ministry. We strongly oppose such a move.”
