Guwahati: The Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam Police Kuladhar Saikia on Saturday officially handed over his charge to Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Spl. Director-General of Police (Border) at Assam Police Headquarter in Guwahati.
Addressing the gathering, DGP Kuladhar Saikia said that the Assam Police Department has been fearlessly working day and night to maintain the law and order situation in the state.
He further wished for the betterment of the Assam Police Department.
Notably, Spl. Director-General of Police (Border) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has been appointed as the in-charge Director-General of Police (DGP) of Assam in addition to existing duties till posting of a regular substitute vice Kuladhar Saikia who will retire on November 30, 2019.
Earlier, the state government has earlier sent names of five DGP rank officials to the UPSC for the post of DGP, Assam. They were NK Sinha, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, KB Singh Deu, BK Mishra and Mukesh Agarwal.
The appointment has been made in accordance with the Supreme Court guidelines that one should hold the post of DGP for at least 2 years.
