Former ‘top cop’ Sharma was credited for bringing ULFA, NDFB (P), as well as NDFB (Ranjan Daimary faction) to the peace talks table during his tenure.

It may be mentioned that during Sharma’s turn as the ADGP (SB), on 24 January, 2012, at least 668 militants belonging to nine militant outfits of the State laid down their arms before the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in Guwahati.

Furthermore, of the nine militant outfits, six were Adivasi outfits, while the rest were Kuki groups, and their demand mostly revolved around granting of ST status.

Sharma saw the rise and fall of militancy in the State. In fact, he can be credited for bringing about the downfall of several militant groups and bringing many others to the negotiating table.
