GUWAHATI: Controversial contractor of Assam Jal Jeevan Mission, Nirmal Kumar Mur was arrested for slapping AJYCP Regional Secretary Lakhi Das Panikar from Mahmora Unit. According to reports, the JJM Contractor bashed the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) officeholder during an argument. Sources claim that Nirmal fled after assaulting Lakhi Das Panikar, a member of the Mahmora section of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), on April 27, 2023. Mur has been transferred to Sivasagar in a highly secure manner a day after the controversial contractor Nirmal Kumar Mur was threatened by Bir Lachit Sena leader Shrinkhal Chaliha for recently slapping an Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Mahmora unit member. On Sunday, the contentious Jal Jeevan Mission contractor posted a video message apologizing to the AJYCP leader for his behaviour. "Hello, my name is Nirmal Kumar Mur, and I apologize for the unfortunate event that occurred on April 27 with AJYCP leader Lakhi Das Panikar. Whatever occurred that day has left me feeling incredibly hurt and embarrassed. I sincerely apologize to each and every AJYCP member, but especially to Lakhi Das. I apologize to the Assamese people and promise not to do this again in the future. I'm prepared to go to the AJYCP office and offer the same apology. Jai Aai Axom, please accept my thanks," Nirmal said in a video message. After the incident, Sonari Police summoned the contractor after receiving a complaint from AJYCP Leader Kakotibari police station in Charaideo district. But he was allowed to leave after basic questioning. As a result, Bir Lachit Sena leader Shrinkhal Chaliha was put under house arrest after he threatened the contractor for misbehaving with an AJYCP member. On Sunday, the AJYCP members in Sivasagar town were incensed by this occurrence. Additionally, a number of AJYCP members demonstrated in front of the Sivasagar home of the JJM contractor. Palash Changmai, the general secretary of the AJYCP, responded to this by telling the media that "controversial JJM contractor Nirmal Mur had slapped the AJYCP regional general secretary from Mahmora unit, and a member had filed a case at Kakotibari police station. We deplore the contractor's later release after Sonari police had summoned him based on the FIR.
