Ranchi: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren is all set to become the new Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
While the counting was on, the JMM-Congress-RJD was leading in 42 out of 81 seats. The ruling BJP party was ahead in 28 seats.
Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, "We respect the mandate of people of Jharkhand." He thanked the people of the state for giving BJP this opportunity to serve the state for five years. He also thanked his workers for the work they had done in the state.
Many political parties opposed to the BJP, expressed their views on the Assembly results, saying it is the people's mandate against Modi-Shah led government, and hailing this as a victory of secular ideals.
Hemant Soren is the son of Shibu Soren, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
Chief Minister of Jharkhand from the ruling BJP party, Raghubar Das conceded defeat
"It is not BJP's defeat, it is my defeat," Das told reporters at a press conference.
