Guwahati: The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Guwahati on Wednesday informed that there would be restrictions on movement of vehicular traffic in and around the Kamakhya temple and the surrounding areas particularly on MG Road, DG Road, TR Phukan Road and the Road towards the Kamakhya temple from the foothill on the occasion of Ambubachi Mela to be held from June 22 to June 26, 2019.
Police also requested the devotees to walk from the foothill of Kamakhya to the Mandir as all kind of vehicles are restricted from Kamakhya foothill. However, special ferry service for differently abled and old will be provided from Kamakhya foothill to the Mandir.
As per a press statement by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Prasanta Saikia informed that no inter-district and long distance buses including the buses operating under ASTC will be allowed to enter on DG Road, MG Road and TR Phukan Road.
No goods carrying commercial vehicles will be allowed to enter from Jalukbari Rotary and Maligaon and Bharalumukh on DG Road. No two-wheelers will be allowed to enter into the road lending from Kamakhya foothill to Kamakhya temple. Also, no parking of vehicles will be allowed during the period of Ambubachi Mela.
Furthermore, Airport goers are requested to avoid DG Road and use National Highway during this period.
On the other hand, the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro), Biswajit Pegu, informed that around six devotee rest camps have been set up for the “Ambubachi Mela”. Out of the six, three has been set up at Fancy Bazaar, one in Baripara and two Pandu.
In Naharbari, 29 stocks have been set up to provide food for the 40 thousand devotees and 40 water providing stall will be made available. No individual or private organizations have been contracted to supply water. Supply of water will be looked after by the district transport for which 80 water supplying vehicles have been allotted for the purpose from Kamakhya Railway Station to the temple.
40 ferry cars have been arranged for the old aged people, physically disabled and sick. On the other hand, 10 ferry cars have been arranged for the locals.
