Mizoram elections 2018: 211 Candidates file nominations

Aizawl: 211 candidates have filed their nominations for the upcoming Mizoram Assembly elections which are being held on November 28, state election department officials said on Friday.

While the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and the Mizo National Front (MNF) have fielded their candidates in all the 40 constituencies of the state, the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) will contest from 35 seats from the northeastern state.

Among the other parties, the Zoramthar (New Mizoram), a party floated by Rev. Zaichhawna Hlwando has fielded 24 candidates, while the People's Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram (PRISM) has fielded 15 nominees. The National People's Party (NPP) is contesting from nine seats and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in five seats, the media reported.

Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawala has filed nominations from two seats. He will be contesting from home turf Sercchip and Champhai South.

At Serchhip Mizoram CM Thanhawala will face ZPM's CM candidate Lalduhoma, who will also contest from Aizawl-West-I seat.

The battle for Serchhip will be interesting as CM Thahawala, ZPM's Lalduhoma and PRISM President Vanlalruata will try their electoral luck from the constituency.

Friday was the last day for the submission of the nomination. The nomination papers will be scrutinized on Monday.
