No Solution No Rest, No Bodoland No Rest: Bodo Movement Groups

Sentinel Digital Desk

Guwahati: On Friday, the Movement groups of Bodoland Demand ABSU, PJACBM and NDFB (P) reaffirm that there won’t be any compromise unless the Government permanently resolves the Bodoland Issue.

Despite being the son of the soil, the community is deprived of all due constitutional rights and share in this State, the Bodo Movement groups claimed in a press statement.

In a grand mass gathering at Barama HS Playground in Baksa District today, the Bodo Movement groups stated that the Bodo and other communities are lacking far behind due to constant discrimination and negligence in political patronisation by the ruling cliques of the region continuously for last 70 years after independence.

The groups also alleged that this is a conspiracy to eradicate the unique culture, rich language and traditions of the community by the privileged section of people of the state.

The press statement also stated that the community along with the underprivileged section of people had to fight for every need, socio-cultural issues and for the right to education in the state.

“It is very unfortunate that, as a citizen, we don’t have access in many rights entitled by the various provisions of the Constitution of India. Our dreams and aspirations cannot be realized unless we have a separate State. Bodos are demanding so many things for inclusive development but that is not done in our regions. There is demand for a Central University since a couple of decades but that has been established at Tezpur and Silchar, there is demand of AIIMS in the lower Assam but the AIIMS is established at Amingaon near Guwahati, Medical College is established by Assam Government in many places but not in Proposed Bodoland Region,” they added in the press statement.

The bodies also claimed that the other tribes of NE region who happened to be part of greater Assam for some decades after independence are feeling more secure in terms of protection of their land, identity, language and culture.

“Creation of one more new state in NE region will not be a curse but it will be a blessing and a way of achieving greater peace and sustainability in the region,” they added further.

They also demanded that the genuine and legitimate demand of the Bodo and other people living in the proposed Bodoland area must be respected as the government of India in order to resolve the Bodoland issue.

The press statement also stated that the movement groups in Bodoland is very disturbed as the present dispensation in Delhi is not taking a policy decision on the matter despite its oral and written promise and assurance since 2014 to resolve the issue if voted to power in New Delhi.

Bodoland Movement is one of the reasons amongst others that have brought into existence the National Federation for the New States (NFNS).

It may be mentioned that all such groups in the country who are demanding the creation of separate statehood are now doing so under the banner of NFNS.

In NFNS we are convinced that the New States are a need of the day as the present regional aspirations of people in the larger existing geographical frame has left parts within it in despair due to the lackadaisical attitude of policymakers.

Further, NFNS believes that the issue of creation of New States is a political one. It must be solved politically. The present system of a dialogue with some retired officers as a negotiator should be replaced by a one to one negotiation with the Central Minister concerned. However, at the same time, this be done during the course of the ongoing dialogue for a time-bound framework for achieving a separate state.

It may further be mentioned that the group demanded a separate state under the provisions of Articles 2 & 3 of The Constitution of India. In the mass gathering, the movement leaders present and delivered speech are Swapnajit Sanyal, Secretary & Spokesperson NFNS from Vidharva, Urkhao Gwra Brahma President, UPPL, Md. Iusup Ali, President United Minority Cell, Sushil Das, Convenor PJACBM, Maothi Brahma Hajowary MCLA.
