ULFA (I) Cadres attempting to burn Indian National Flag on Aug 15 apprehended in Dhemaji

Dhemaji: In a major breakthrough, Assam Police apprehended four more suspected ULFA (I) cadres on Thursday from Laipuliya area in Dhemaji.

As per police reports, the cadres were on an attempt to burn the Indian National Flag and hoist ULFA (I) flag and later upload the video on social media.

The cadres were trying to spread an anti-Indian sentiment amongst the masses through social media, informed Superintendent of Police Rakesh Reddy.

Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police, Rakesh Reddy also mentioned that based on secret inputs an operation was laid down to apprehended the suspected cadres of the outlawed faction.

SP Reddy also stated that during the operation the special police force team recovered two ULFA(I) flag, four mobile handsets, pieces of Indian National flag, one FZ Yamaha Motorcycle bearing registration number AS 22F 2118, two posters supporting ULFA(I) and one Kurpi from their possession.

The apprehended ULFA(I) were identified as Parthajit Konwar (21), Mrinal Phukan (18) of Dhemaji and Jonak Baruah (18) and Uday Baruah (23) of Dibrugarh.

Meanwhile, police are being interrogating the suspected ULFA (I) cadres.

Furthermore, Assam police force had tightened the security checking in the region ahead of the 73rd Independence Day.

Earlier, on Thursday, Dibrugarh Police in an massive operation on Wednesday apprehended four people for allegedly being in contact with outlawed faction ULFA (I).

The apprehended people were identified to be a female teacher identified as (Chayanika Kaman) was apprehended from Golaghat, a female student Kabita Kamang from Dibrugarh, one ICU technician (Pranab Pegu alias Kanakjyoti Pegu) from a private hospital in Dibrugarh and Debojyoti Duarah from Naharkatia.

Addressing the media, Subhasini Shankaran, Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police said, “Investigation is going on in full swing and the arrested persons are being interrogated. We have seized a flag of the militant organization, seven mobile phones and one Maoist literature book from their possession. More details will be revealed after the investigation is over.”
