Silchar: In continuation of awareness programme about the SLRM project at the Silchar, a programme was organized by District Administration Cachar at Gurcharan College auditorium hall on Saturday. Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Laya Madduri, graced the occasion where she made acquaintance with the students of various colleges of Cachar District. Laya Madduri talked about the waste management i.e. SLRM and dumping ground and made the students aware about the solid and liquid Resource management system.
While delivering her speech Laya Madduri mentioned that wastes should be treated as income generating resources. The Cachar District Administration has taken the task on a mission mode to remove, recycle and re-use the wastes littered across the city of Silchar. And as a part of the mission, the SLRM project is in operation here spearheaded by C.Srinivasan. The aim is to find a solution into the lapses in the duty to keep the city clean and also to make waste disposal an income generating activity.
Regarding the liquid and solid waste by Solid Liquid Resource Management, a joint venture of the district administration and Silchar municipality, Maduri said that the project will be augmented under the proper management of Resource Person C Srinivasan. Solid Liquid garbages will be brought by tricycle and recycled. She sought the cooperation of people of all levels, including the owners of various organizations of Silchar, and said that for the city to be made transparent and beautiful, it is for all to move forward.
Later on through a slide-show, waste management expert C Srinivasan explained that garbage could be converted and used as a resource for their employment generation, explaining the differences between the previous collection method of mixed waste collection and the current method of collecting household goods. Assistant Commissioner Abilash Barnwal, Assistant Commissioner Maria Tanim, Bibhash Deb Principal of Gurcharan College participated in the programme.
