Hailakandi: To ensure the all-round development of students through co-curricular activities, a review meeting of the District Council of Bharat Scouts and Guides (BSG) was held on Monday. All the office bearers of the District Council of BSG along with all the trained Scout Masters (SM) and Guide Captains (GC), head of the institutions and proposed trainees attended the meeting held at DC’s conference hall.
At the outset, Inspector of Schools, Rajiv Kumar Jha welcomed all the invitees and presented scouting scarf to Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education) Ranadip Kumar Dam, as welcome gesture as per the scouting tradition.
Various agendas like reconstitution of the District Council of the BSG, training of SM/GC, review of activities of BSG district council in schools and community, introduction of scouting and guiding activities in madrassas etc were discussed.
The ADC (Education) appreciated the initiative taken by Inspector of Schools to revamp the BSG activities in the district for all-round development of students and inculcating in them democratic values for nurturing them as a global citizen of 21st Century. He further extended his best wishes for the upcoming teacher training and scouting activities in the district.
The Inspector of Schools stated that scouting and guiding activities in schools is a part of co-curricular activities and the performance of students is to be reflected in their annual results but it is not being followed in letter and spirit. However, Jha expressed his satisfaction that in the current academic session all the schools of the district have registered themselves for scouting activities which augurs well.
19 male and 3 female teachers have been deputed for obtaining the advanced course of scout masters and guide captains at the State Training Centre at Chamtapathar, Jagiroad. The participants consented to extend full cooperation to the reconstituted District Council of BSG for imparting training to students and for active community welfare work.
The district secretary of the District Council of BSG offered the vote of thanks. The BSG is a voluntary, non-political, educational movement for young people, open to all without distinction of origin, race or creed, in accordance with the purpose, principles and methods conceived by the Founder Lord Baden Powell in 1907.
The purpose of the movement is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of local, national and international communities. Registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 with 56,95,676 members on its rolls, the BSG has its headquarters in New Delhi. Assam is one of the member states with district council in all the districts.
