Guwahati: Following a directive from the party high command, the BJP in Assam has started preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha poll. The party is drawing plans to wrest the five Lok Sabha constituencies that members from the opposition parties hold now.

According to a top-level state BJP leader, the focus is on the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state. "For the five constituencies with the opposition parties - Kaliabor, Nagaon, Dhubri, Barpeta and Kokrajhar - the party high command has given the responsibility to the ministers and MPs. The party has given the responsibility of the nine constituencies held by the BJP to the MLAs. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is responsible for Kaliabor, Pabitra Margherita for Dhubri, Bhubaneswar Kalita for Barpeta, Kamakhya Prasad Tasha for Nagaon and Rameswar Teli for Kokrajhar.

The party has started the process of booth strengthening in the entire state with a thorough scientific study of the results of every election right from Lok Sabha to the local body level since 2014, the party leader said. He added, "It will provide us with a clear picture of the fluctuations of our shares of votes. A report from every booth committee will go to the party headquarters under this study. The study will also cover the benefits of various schemes to people from every booth committee. The study will look into the demography of every booth, besides each booth committee setting its connection to every voter."
