Dibrugarh Woman Attacked with Acid on Valentine's Day

A 33-year-old woman was seriously injured in an acid attack near Mirzabagh area under Amolapatty police outpost when she was returning from her work.

DIBRUGARH: In a shocking incident, a woman from Dibrugarh district in Assam was attacked with acid on February 14.

According to reports, the 30-year-old was returning from her workplace at Sohum Shoppe – a mall when the incident occurred in a neighbourhood area, Mirzabag under Amolapatty Police outpost.

The victim is from Jaypore in Naharkatia and lived with her sister in Dibrugarh.

Notably, the victim sustained severe injuries and was admitted to the Assam Medical College & Hospital, Dibrugarh (AMCH).

Meanwhile, a team of Dibrugarh Police led by Sadar officer-in-charge was able to nab the culprit.

The accused has been identified as Buddhadev Das (50-year-old) is a resident of Shantipara area in Dibrugarh.

During interrogation, it came to light that the woman rejected the marriage proposal by the man and in a rage, he attacked her with acid on Sunday evening.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Assam ADGP L&O, GP Singh wrote, "Reference Acid throwing incident of Dibrugarh on February 14th, the FIR named accused have been arrested and follow up lawful action being taken. We shall leave no stone unturned to bring justice to the victim."

On the other hand, a minor boy saved his mother from an acid attack by his father at their residence in Chowbhaga area of West Bengal's Kolkata.

As per reports, the victims' husband suspected that she was having an illicit relationship and planning to tie the knot with someone else.

On Friday afternoon, a heated argument flared up between the couple over the issue. The man, during the argument, brought sink-cleaning acid from the bathroom.

Meanwhile, the 15-year-old child, who was present there, realised that his father was about to happen. The child just in time pulled his mother away as his father threw acid at her face. The chemical fell then on her saree. 

Though the woman did not suffer any major injuries, the police sent her to a hospital for medical checkup.
