AZARA: The Sri Sri Buri Gukhani (Durga Devi) Mandir in Lara hills, Sajjanpur celebrates puja in a unique way. The puja committee, consisting of 15 villages in Rani District, does not worship the goddess idol but the sacrificial machete. The Mandir celebrated its centennial year this puja. The hundred year old temple was constructed after king Arimotto’s demise in 1920 and moved to Lara hills in 2014. The community customarily brings out the sacrificial machete on the day of Sasthi from the royal family and puts it back on Dashami. In celebration of a hundred years, four buffaloes, and several goats and pegions were sacrificed.
