1,000 schools will be reconstructed, says Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu

The present government has allocated huge funds for the reconstruction of schools and has proposed to construct a total of 252 schools in this fiscal year, two in each constituency.

GUWAHATI: “The present government has allocated huge funds for the reconstruction of schools and has proposed to construct a total of 252 schools in this fiscal year, two in each constituency. The target of reconstructing more than 1,000 schools has been set by the government, which will give a new dimension to the education sector,” said Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu. He said this while addressing a meeting with representatives of the All Assam Higher Secondary Teachers and Employees’ Association in the office at Janata Bhawan on Thursday.

The association was informed regarding the various issues of the higher secondary teachers in the meeting. The issues discussed included the construction of science laboratories and libraries, the amendment of teachers’ rules of Pay (RoPs), the supply of textbooks, the increase in earned leave for teachers, etc. The Education Minister informed the office-bearers of the association that the department is committed to taking the education department to the peak of improvement in a systematic manner.

The Minister further said that adequate textbooks will be provided for the students with regard to elective subjects. In this regard, the Minister directed the departmental officers to prepare e-textbooks according to subjects for the convenience of the students. The Minister informed the meeting that a framework for the career development of teachers is being considered, like that of a college-type school, with a view to sharing and enhancing their knowledge. The meeting was attended by Education Secretary SN Chowdhury and Director of Secondary Education Mamata Hojai.

On the other hand, another meeting was held with the All Assam TET Teachers Joint Forum at Janata Bhawan on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by the officials of the association, who briefed the Minister on the advantages and disadvantages of teachers, including service rules, recruitment of teachers in schools, and construction of classrooms as per the number of students.

The minister was asked to include the contractual and state pool teachers through TET since 2012 on the basis of their seniority in the rationalization process. The minister said their demands would be accepted. The teachers’ forum informed the minister that they are cooperating in providing full information in the Shiksha Setu app.
