GUWAHATI: Altogether 1,06,999 cases are yet to be disposed in various districts of Assam. What is more, a total of 4,704 have remained unresolved for 10 or more than 10 years. This official data covers the period till May 31, 2021.

These cases are registered in the various wings of Assam Police like the Police Stations, CID (Criminal Investigation Department), BIEO (Bureau of Investigation of Economic Offences), and GRP (Government railway Police) among others.

Mentionably, the largest number of 37,906 non-disposed cases are under the Guwahati Police Commissionarate. Of these, a total of 3,595 cases have remained unsolved for more than a decade now.

The Guwahati Police Commissionarate comprises the three Police districts of East, Central and West. The East Police district encompasses the police stations of Dispur, Hatigaon, Basistha, Sonapur, Bhangagarh, and Khetri.

The Central Police district includes the police stations of Chandamari, Noonmati, Geetanagar, Pragjyotishour, Satgaon, Paltan Bazar, Panbazar, Latasil, and also the 'All Women Police Station' at Panbazar.

The West Police district consists of the police stations of Bharalumukh, Jalukbari, Garchuk, Fatasil Ambari, and Azara.

While 17,506 cases are pending in the East Police District; 12,369 are in Central Police District; and 8,031 cases are still to be resolved in West Police District.

After Guwahati, Cachar district has the highest number of 10,346 unresolved cases. Of them, 256 are yet to be solved for 10 years or more. Dhubri is in the third slot with 6,790 unresolved cases and 157 pending since the last 10 years or more. Tinsukia follows with 32 pending for a decade or more of the 5,843 cases, informed top Police sources.
