GUWAHATI: Commissioner of Police, Guwahati Munna Prasad Gupta on Friday said the police have so far registered 99 cases and arrested 117 persons on charges of ransacking public property and giving objectionable posts in social media during the anti-CAA protests in the city.
“All these cases are being investigated thoroughly and appropriate actions as per laws will be taken against the guilty persons. In case the accused and guilty persons in connection with these cases are found below the age of 18, the police will deal with such persons as per the juvenile laws,” Gupta said.
The Police Commissioner said there are adequate forces in the city to tackle any further deterioration in law and order situation. He appealed to citizens to extend support and cooperation to maintain peace, normalcy and tranquility in the city. He also thanked the people for fast return of normalcy to the State Capital.
Gupta said even though suspension of mobile internet service has been lifted, the people should be very cautious and sensible whole using the net service. He appealed to city residents not to circulate videos and make posts in social media that can cause social unrest and law and order problem. “The police will constantly monitor social media,” he said.
