13th East Himalayan Trade Fair underway in Guwahati city

 GUWAHATI: The 13th East Himalayan Trade Fair was inaugurated by State Commerce and Industry Minister Bimal Borah on Monday.

This eight-day extravaganza, which will run until October 8, is being hosted by India Trade Promotion Organization in association with Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Assam, at the Assam Engineering Institute Playground in Chandmari, Guwahati.

The inauguration ceremony commenced with the traditional lighting of the auspicious lamp, symbolizing the prosperity and unity that this trade fair brings to the region. Bimal Borah, in his remarks, emphasized the significance of trade and commerce in the region and its role in promoting economic growth. The minster interacted with the exhibitors and evinced keen interest in the products displayed by them.

Exhibitors from Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir were very happy with the interest shown by the minister in their products. The honey derived from various plant extracts, leather products, and glass handicrafts and toys from Haryana, as well as saffron and textile products from Jammu & Kashmir, received special attention.

Bimal Borah encouraged the participating exhibitors to take full advantage of government schemes, such as the recently launched PM Vishkarma Scheme, to further promote trade and entrepreneurship in the region. One of the highlights of the trade fair was the Taxpayer Lounge set up by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), which provided valuable information on income tax and educated the public on tax-related matters.

With over 150 companies showcasing an impressive array of products, including textiles, handicrafts, food items, gardening tools, and specialty items from Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, MP, MSME, the East Himalayan Trade Fair has become a major attraction in the city. The fair also features engaging activities such as B2B meetings, Cultural programs, nukkad nataks, painting competitions, and magical shows, adding to the overall entertainment value.

There are over 150 companies who are participating in the fair, displaying a wide range of products like textile, handicraft, food items, gardening tools and special items from Haryana and J&K. The 13th East Himalayan Trade Fair will remain open for the public till October 8.
