158 High Schools upgraded to Higher Secondary level in Assam

Altogether 158 High Schools have been upgraded till date in Assam.

GUWAHATI: Altogether 158 High Schools have been upgraded till date in Assam. This move has been made to increase the seats at the HS (Higher Secondary) level and to meet the crisis triggered by the high pass percentage of the successful candidates seeking admission in the next academic courses in HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) examination this year.

It has been also learned that the State government has upgraded 158 high schools to the HS (Higher Secondary) level. Of such educational institutions, a total of 113 High Schools were upgraded on September 14, 2021. The remaining 45 High Schools were upgraded on September 21.

The upgradation has been made with respect to those institutions which have the required number PG (Post-Graduate) teachers and also those where no new recruitment of teachers are needed. There shall not be any new post creation; and no financial grant shall be given to the newly upgraded HS schools.

The upgradation of 158 High schools across 33 districts of the State are as follows: 12 in Baska; 10 each in Golaghat and Sonitpur; nine each in Dibrugarh and Barpeta; eight each in Lakhimpur and Dhubri; seven in Darrang, Nagaon, and Morigaon; six each in Kamrup and Dima Hasao; five in Chirang and Kamrup (M); four each in Hailakandi Cachar, Nalbari, Odalguri ; three each in Kokrajhar, Charaideo, Sibsagar, Karbi Anglong, Tinsuki; and Dhemaji; two each in Karimganj, West Karbi Anglong and Goalpara; one each in Jorhat, Majuli, Bajali, Bongaigaon, Biswanath and South Salmara.
