GUWAHATI: The 1st Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) with its battalion headquarters at Patgaon recently celebrated the 17th NDRF Raising Day, stated a press release. The NDRF has been rendering tireless services with full dedication and responsibility and keeping watch in every disaster and emergency situations in the four Northeastern States of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura. After a series of severe natural calamities that occurred in India during the late 1990s brought to the fore the need for a comprehensive disaster management plan, the Disaster Management Act was enacted on December 26, 2005. Finally, on January 19, 2006 the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) with NDRF battalions came into existence.
On the occasion of the 17th Rasing Day, the flag-hoisting ceremony was observed at the 'Quarter Guard' by Commandant HPS Kandari in the presence of all officers, SOs-22 and ORs-81. During the ceremony the Commandant distributed sweets to all.
