GUWAHATI: The 1960 Gauhati University Matriculates’ Association celebrated its Diamond Jubilee on Sunday at a hotel in Guwahati. Sixty GU matriculates of 1960 took part in the celebration.
The association was formed to keep a connection alive among the 1960 GU matriculates. The president of the Association, Col. Robin Das (retd) said that the association has been playing a vital role in connecting 1960 GU matriculates. “We celebrate a get-together on the first Sunday of every year. However, this time around the situation in Assam was not conducive for celebrating the day because of the anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) agitation. So we couldn’t organize the event on the first Sunday of the year. Today we observed one-minute of silence in memory of five of our batch mates whom we’ve lost between January 2019 and January 2020.”
Muktikam Hazarika, a 1960-batch GU matriculate said that prior to the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee event, a book, Smritir Papari, was launched. Dr. Anjan Jyoti Choudhury, the chief guest at the event, formally launched the book. Smritir Papari has been edited by Dr. Pabitra Kumar Patowary and published by Rana Pratap Bezbaruah on behalf of 1960 GU Matriculates’ Association.
