Tea: A Wonder Drink for Health and Wellness is authored by Pradip Baruah released

GUWAHATI: Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary conveyed a meeting of the stakeholders of tea sector at Janata Bhawan here on Thursday. The Minister discussed the issues related to the tea industry and directed to bring about reforms in the tea auction system including quality assurance. He also directed the tea representatives to improve the working environment in the tea sector including welfare of workers and quality improvement in the tea production process for better competitiveness in the international market.

At the meeting, a book on tea and health was launched to mark the 1st International Tea Day which was declared by United Nations. The book titiled, Tea: A Wonder Drink for Health and Wellness is authored by Dr. Pradip Baruah, Chief Advisory Officer of Tocklai Tea Research Institute (TTRI). The Minister hoped that the book will give an insight for the readers to know the health benefits of tea with its anti-oxidant, medicinal, therapeutic, wellness and nutritional values.

Patowary said, "As per Centre's directives, the fight against COVID-19 and revival of the economy must run parallel. The tea industry has suffered a loss of Rs. 600 crore due to the lockdown. It's high time that the tea sector put all efforts in improving the quality of tea to boost trade and business through value additions like white tea, jasmine tea, purple tea," a press release said.
