GUWAHATI: As a precautionary measure against the third wave of COVID-19, the Health Department decided to set up pediatric ICUs (intensive care units) in medical colleges across the State.

Under this initiative, as many as 40 pediatric ICUs are almost ready for operations at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), said GMCH Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent Achyut Chandra Baishya while talking to The Sentinel.

He added that additional 200 ICUs are being installed at the parking area of the GMCH which will be completed by the first week of July.

He underlined that the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) Hospital Sarusajai started its operations for COVID on Wednesday and it is working as an annexure of the GMCH.
